Chessington June 2017

By George.

Successful day at Chessington today!

first up we had...

KATRINA AND BELLE'S FIRST TOURNAMENT.

we were a little worried because it was open grade but turns out we had no problems!
KATRINA takes from her mother and has no fear in getting stuck in. she got a 2nd place at her first ever tournament, she has massive potential and is very talented :)

BELLE steps on the matt for the first time as the smallest competitor but nothing was going to stop her! even holding her own against some black belt fighters!!! she has no fear and loved every moment on that matt well done belle :)

ROSSI was up next and had a couple of awkward fights. once he figures out his way around fighters that just aimlessly run at him and try to hit him he will have no trouble walking away with gold. He had one fight against a points style fighter and dominated showing his true talent. Got a little bit of work to do but you should be proud of yourself as you gave a brilliant performance against in against a 'normal style of point fighter'

MAGGIE was a natural out there and is starting to use her hands! she is now becoming a strong force and listened to instructions perfectly. picked up a gold and dominated her section. next aim for maggie is to put the same thing into the super league next week. FIGHTER OF THE DAY!!

ELLIS had her second tournament and the improvement in her fighting is massive. precise side kicks to the body and blitz's were flying. she had a tough kicker at the end and faced her fears! a real fighter and brilliant attitude in training which shows in her development on the map. 2nd place for ellis in her 2nd ever tournament!!

MICHELLE had a tiring day fighting in light con and two point section but focus and mental positivity was much stronger. had an extremely tough 'light' con fight to start but she kept getting up and stuck in, its all experience. she gained a 3rd in points intermediate and fought some very tough fights on advanced. you cant fault her ability to get up and keep going and had made her mindset so strong, massive improvement.

RICHARD REES had his first tournament and went straight into the intermediate section. definitely the fastest and most technical fighter in the sections but a few distance and timings that will come with more matt time. but a great performance and unlucky not to place 3rd just couldn't get the refs majority. looking forward to seeing you at more tournaments as gold is so close.

KERRY turned up LATE!! and seemed a bit mellow before fighting in her intermediate section but quickly got her head into gear. all the work we have been doing on Thursday came into place and came off the matt saying she could actually do what i asked her. (which makes me wonder what she has been doing so far) but had a lot of energy in her fighting and tactically fought brilliant. 2nd place for kerry!!

NICOLLE (With two L's) had her family down to watch and was up and raring for her first intermediate tournament. she took no prisoners and had a great spring in her step. timing and decisions were brilliant and when she decides she is going to win she always will!! he kicks are coming along nicely and i dont think it will be long till she can use them more effectively in tournaments. 1st place for nicolle and a very strong performance

LAST BUT NOT LEAST WE HAVE LIZ!! who had some great continuous fights and i thought was robbed out of a first place as she was blocking the 'head kicks.' but more importantly her timing on when to add pressure and when to blitz has grown massively!! giving her so much more to use while fighting. This also showed in her points fighting when she was up against a very quick and impressive fighter but instead liz used her timing to score a step back side kick and her explosive power to blitz her. i've never seen her come off the matt so happy and it was great to see! she has improved so much and shows now sign of slowing down. 2nd and 3rd for liz

What a brilliant performance from everyone! but this is just the beginning we need to get back into training and become the best we can be!

Kristian and Roland seminar on Wednesday and that will help everyone!!

I am very proud of everyone today. lets keep this mindset going and when your tired and hurting remember to still come train and push your partners as it not just you your helping but your team!

GO BKO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hands down Feb 2017

BKO//CHESSINGTON

Another great day out for bko everyones fighting attitude on top form and massive massive improvement from everyone.

first up was jamie who showed great timing with his reverse punch throwing dummies and blitz's. we now have a strong style to work with to ensure more wins. had some strong timings with his reverse punches but at times lost his head and started running at the fighter. but overall Jamie is improving so quickly.

then we had robbie who drew one of the strong hands down boys (someone who beat him by 10 points last year) this time the fight ended 2-2 a very even fight although i saw robbie land a jumping side kick to the body that wasnt counted, but that doesn't bother me as robbie's attitude in training and fighting is incredible and it is now showing on the matts. after this fight robbies injury to his shoulder stopped him from fighting the other fights but i strong performance.

next up was rossi who has found his fighting side. pacing up and down the matt and was very focused, landed a beautiful blitz, huge improvement in attitude skill and general fight. just need to tighten up his tactic and he will be countering this fighters easily. he was unlucky not to place but was definitely one to beat in the section. now he must carry out the same attitude into his training and i would expect robbie and rossi to be meeting in the final after taking out the world!!! :P

Elizabeth Ferioli was up next with a very tough continous fight. she followed tactics perfect and throwing some powerful shots (which doesn't surprise anyone) she found her feet with this fight and with a bit more time shall be victorious. timing is growing leaps and bounds!! 2nd place for liz

Ashley Williams's turn next. very focused slightly nervous but after 30 seconds of his first fight his footwork and pure class of technique and attitude shone through. both fighters much taller than him but he used the space well to close the gap and our time them. a few wild choices of kicks but most shots landing clean and connected (a few shots i wouldn't like to be taking) a great confidence boost and a well deserved win! 1st place for ashley

next up was George who seemed to have tired legs (ON YOUR TOES!!!! ON YOUR TOE!!!!) but used his timing attitude and drive to win all his fights and take 1st place. it was good to see George win as he wanted it so badly. we are working on your legs strength an fitness and soon you will b taking even more first places. few techniques we need to tighten up as well but this will all come with time. a natural fighter :)

back up for more was Elizabeth Ferioli for points. her points fighting had grown incredibly since training with us and its brilliant to watch a continous fighter use her strength and it to work. this first fight showed this with such a strong straight punch to the face. her second fight was a draw and had to fight for 1st place which when to extra time. such a close fight but just came short. not bad for someone with jet lag!! 2nd place in points for liz

Robert Payne AKA mr inappropriate was up next. he was looking sharp and had a strong stance. he started blitzing slightly too high but when he found his distance it was plain sailing to 1st place. with more matt time potential and very strong fighter for the country.

hot from watford open Ben Ralph's turn was up. listening to instructions well and performing is tactics well. we need to get him crossing his feet when he blitz's but he beat all of his opponents using his great timing. he was not flustered by anyones moves and deserved a 1st place :) keep it up ben

Fighter of the tournament maggie brown was finally up. to many people they would just see her scoring kicks, but she used many tactics with her kick, countering, changing levels, pulling kicks short and blitzing. she fought all three of her fights differently apply pressue on some and showed patience with others. while kicking she was lining he hands up and most of the time was first to score with her hands after the kick. she (like her brothers) had her eyes on first place and was willing to fight anyone for it. timing tactics and technique was strong and won a much deserved 1st place

last but not lease we had a Paul Dogzy Corio Vinnie Turner and Mark Watson in a section with another two fighters.

Paul Dogzy Corio had some tired legs but after 2 years out cam back strong. only turned his head a few times in some points he started tightening up his tactics, working is front arm. using his reach well and taking a 3rd place not bad for the first tournament in 2 years. congrats paul just need to tighten up the guard and work the front arm

Mark Watson showed how much he has developed his feet were moving and was reading his opponent well (it doesn't help that vinnie and paul at double his height) but great attitude and the best i have ever seen him fight. great timing on the reverse punch just need to fight different angles when fighting massive giants so you dont run into their front arm

Vinnie Turner after a strong start at the watford open found his front arm using it as a jab, once his opponent starts to try to block his jab he can us his main reverse punch tactic. its working great and he is questioning himself less. an all round improvement for vinnie and a good warm up for the british nationals. 1st place for vinnie

1st place - vinnie, rob, ben george, maggie and ashley
2nd place -- liz x 2
3rd place -- paul

but amazing fighting from the rest of the team (and im not just saying that generally massive improvement and deserves to be placing keep it up!)
robbie, rossi, mark and jamie.

please let me know if iv forgotten anyone im doing this from memory and im tired :P

well done bko love the team

Robbie, Rossi and Adam had hard fighting today as they have moved up to the inter/advanced section. All got 4th in their divisions.

Jamie in only his second tournament 4th

Ken blew off some cobwebs and got 3rd

Kat had some awesome continuous fights after her exertions last night at the fight night 2nd in advanced.. Then she entered points 2nd.

Mark showed good improvement in the continuous, but was up against a good hard hitter. 2nd.

In Sean's section it was really between him and another fighter for the first place after they both won their first round robin bouts. Sean was just pipped into 2nd place. He then fought in the heavier weight section and had a great fight against Ian in the final where he came 1st. just pipping Ian into 2nd. Vinnie won his section then fought in a section with the rest of the BKo fighters in Vin 1st, Sean 2nd, Mark 3rd.

Well done BKO.

Chessington April

We took a squad of 20 down to the Chessington open in April. There would have been more peole fighting, but the previous day was the trampolining session for the club and some were nursing sore legs.

Chessington is a round robin tournament and a great opportunity for fighters to get mat time and experience, or just have a run out. There are a mix of abilities and grades here.

Up first were the teams and in ours were George, Curtis, Gribbs and Kat. The points were accrued rather than individul fights scored. We had a very close fight with Guildford. All fighters giving their best, especially Kat who fought the winner of the Irish open and refused to back down eventually getting a draw. George stepped out for the fight off and although we thought he scored on his opponent, he lost the bout by one point??

Kids were up next. Rossi fought his usual cagey fights, but lost all four of them 1-0. It is to his credit that he can keep his opponent from scoring, but we are now working on his punching and attacking so that he can win these bouts in future.

Maggie had a good final bout in which she was using her reverse punch much more and her usual excellent kicking. Her opponent had the better of the punches however and Maggie had to settle for 2nd.

Laynar met Aimee in the final and it wasa close affair with Laynar pushing her side kick out and using her accurate reverse punch and Aime blitzing her points. Laynar ran out the eventual winner and Aimee 2nd.

Chloe fought in her first ever tournament and only had one opponent in the tiny's category. She had to fight two rounds and threrw some excellent punches. Chloe can sometimes become static and her opponent capitalised on this scoring two or three points. Chloe attempted to fight back and hit a lovely stepping backfist in the final seconds. It wasn't enough however and she was 2nd.

Owen fought his first tournament as well, Using his front hand to good effect in the early rounds. He met a very competent fighter in the final and the points were close. Near the bell Owen had to score to level the fight. He Chased his opponent down and hit a lovely backfist. Unfortunately the Ref said he just called time a split second befor the strike, so Owen had to have 2nd place.

Gribbs fought in the seniors and gave a great perfomance. Some lovely straight punches to the head. Sometimes he can be impatiant and throw attacks from too far  away and this proved costly today.

George Fought in the seniors and won his first round 8-1 against an opponent he has lost to on previous occasions. It is showing how he has improved. In the final He fought against someone who he had beaten and felt comfortable, but his points didn't seem to be scored. In the final seconds he scored a backfist and the refs gave it the other way giving the fight to his opponent. George through his gloves up in the air in frustration but soon got over it. This is the fight game, there are many variables and the decisions are made by others. When you fight alot you can risk losing more. You peak for the big tournaments and sometimes at the smaller ones there is not so much to psych for.

Andy Evans fought Vinnie in the first fight  of their section and had to contend with Vinnies long and broken style which he did well. Throwing counter kicks and reverse punches. Vinnie Ran out the eventual winner of the section however With Andy gainin a creditable 2nd.

Andy then went on to fight in the Intermediate section against a heavier and more experienced opponent. Andy's Front leg scored well as a counter and his reverse punch and movement has made great improvements. This led to him controlling the fight and winning the section 1st place

More to come.

Chessington open

We took a large formidable squad to the Chessington Round Robin tournament on Sunday.
atmosphere at this one with natural light from the plastic roof, but it does get hot when the sun is out.

Unusually for a competition, the first up are the Senior divisions.
George entered this one before most people got there and lost by one point to the eventual winner. He then dominated the continuous section and beat both fighters in the 3 way final. The he was asked to fight one of the fighters again in another final!!! The fighter had a bad back and stopped the fight on a couple of occasions to receive treatment. George took his foot off the gas, but still dominated the fight. Despite this George lost the fight on a split descision and everyone was perplexed at this outcome and assume he  got a sympathy vote?? George has now learnt the lesson that you take no prisoners on the mat and this situation will not happen again.
Mark was up next in the continuous section. In the final over 2 rounds, Mark met a heavy hitting opponent who looked to get the better hits in the first round. The second round saw Mark Lifting his knee and blocking kicks. Then a right from Mark floored his opponent. Following this Mark dominated the fight more and eventually won when his opponent had to retire due to an injured shoulder.

Rossi took to that mats in the Kids section and hit his opponent with some well timed side kicks. After 3 wins Rossi narrowly lost and had to be content with a 4th place.

Robbie too showed his skill with his side kick and blitzing in the kids section. But had the same result as Rossi 4th place.

Kat Powered her way through the ladies novice section with her accurate reverse punching and backfist beating all comers to arrive at the 3 way final. She dominated this as well and gained a well desrved 1st place.

Entering the intermediate section Kat still showed her power, but had to settle for a 3rd place.

Then she entered the Senior (Black belt) Continuous section and fought like a Tiger against more experienced and advanced girls. Kat came in  in 3rd place but showed her srenght and power and only lost by a narrow margin.

Michelle had a bad day at the office today. Felling unwell and falling asleep at the tournament, she was up against it and despite some flashes of brilliance, She was unable to reach the final in the novice section and got 4th place. Michelle still had her warrior head on and entered the Intermediate section but her energy levels were low. She did however gain a 3rd place in this section. She then called it a day and pulled out of the continuous fighting.

Kerry put her speed and attacking style to good use by winning 3 fights in a row in the ladies Novice. Discovering her kicking ability, she pushed her opponents back before finishing them off with her hands. She had to settle for 4th place overall after losing to an in form Kat

Alex won her first fights in a tournament and was so pleased. Her kicking is deadly when she uses it to attack and in one fight she scored 3 head kicks. Alex stepped up the urgency in her fighting and this payed off giving her a 4th place.

Helen's first ever tournament showed that she had no fear. She went for her opponents with aggression and was only beaten by slightly quicker reverse punches. Helen came 4th

Vinnie's height and reach are beginning to tell as he gains confidence and learns how to impliment his strengths. Lunging reverse punches by Vinnie stood him in good stead and his pressurising of his opponents was excellent. Vinnie came 3rd in the mens novice section.

Marc saw his first wins in a tournament also. He has been developing his kicking in the open mat sessions and this has given him more variety in his fighting. Marc had to retire early however due to cracked ribs. He gained a 5th place overall.

John John. Went into his first ever tournament with confidence. In the 2 round final his reverse punch found it's mark and in the 1st round he was 6-2 up. The secnd round saw John flagging and he had to steel himself and fight both fatigue and a determined opponent. John won by taking the bout in the final second securing a 1st place.

On the whole a great day for BKO. The development of every fighter was shown and in such a short time as well. Apart from George, None of the adult fighters have been training for a year yet! and John John has only just finished the Beginners course! This is the level of training and dedication at BKO, we are building into an excellent team. Well done all!
