Saturday saw the first BKO kids club tournament.
We run these to give the new kids and teh inexperienced ones a first idea of what it's like to fight in a tournament. It also gives the regular fighters a bit of mat time befor ethey go to a major competition.
They are a bit chaotic but great fun and invaluable practice for the real thing.
Yesterday was no exception. We even had the little ninjas competing.

1st Robbie. 2nd Maggie. 3rd Dan 4th. Rossi.
The first tournament of the year was in High wycombe at the WON.
We had nearly 40 people registered to fight at this one, but colds and flu etc took a few out, but still a healthy large team arrived at the venue.
The standard was very high with competitiors from Hungary, Austria, Italy, csech republic, Spain and many more.
Our kids team are gaining experience all the time and moving up the levels. This means that although they are improving, they have to fight in harde sections. Either heavier, taller, older, higher grades etc. Still the kids team are gaining places and beating opponents who they lost to last year. There were great perfomance from all the kids and especially the first timers at such a big tournament. I was very pleased with Jamie's fighting as he just did everything we told him in his fights and even though he didn't quite get into the medals this time, the improvement was fantastic and will see him win medals in future I'm sure. Great mature fighting from Adam also who hit his opponent with a juping backfist and side kick in the same movement, but still didn't get a point! It was Like's first time and he warmed into his bout. At the end of the fight he scored some lovely punches, but was not given a point and this cost him the fight.
Adults put on a good show as well. Rory fought in the vets section and came up against Ed Lofts. Probably teh best vet fighter around. So unporedictable and rangy. He cought Rory at first, and Rory had to constantly push the fight to get some points back. Very hard day at the office, but great experienced gained. Well done Rory.
Harry also had a difficult draw when he faced World champ Chris Aston on the first round. Harry is returning to points sparring and this is just the experience he needs. he pushed the fight too much in the early stages and got caught, which let the fight get away and Chris Racked up the points in his usual style.
Mitch fought in two categories. She did well against the Italian champion, in the semi final of the vets gaining a bronze. But her experience really told in her final of the inter section where her timing won her a Gold.
George was ill today, but still fought in three sections. He had a great fight with Cory cook in teh grand slam and despite narrowly losing, was pleased with his perfomance and how he handled the fight considering he was 50%
In the regular sections George reached the semi finals and faced Alex Veres. What an awesome fight with both of them thrying to out think eachother. George went ahead at first, but Alex pulled it back and in the final seconds George threw a testing backfist to pull out Alex's counter. He was a little too deep however and the counter hit giving Alex the win.
In the second section They met agin in the final, but by this time George was feeling very ill and had to stop the bout on several occasions to throw up into a bag! Despite this he caried on and got the silver.
George Silver, Bronze.
Maggie. Gold, Silver Bronze x2
Mitch Gold, Bronze.
It was the biggest BKO World championships we ever had last night with over 100 bouts and 2.5 hours of competition. Some great fights occurred with various match ups of ladies, men and kids.Harry Watson finally came out the winner just pipping Jim to the post by 1 point. Charlotte also won the Girls World championships. Great fun.
Thanks to Leigh Randall who came all the way from Wales to Referee the proceedings. :)
We had four fighters representing Team GB in 6 categories in the WAKO European chamionships in Maribor this year.
Unfortunately Liz had to drop out because she became pregnant. Kat found that her two opponents had pulled out and WAKO rules are, No fight no trophy.
That left George and Rob.
George had the honour of leading the flag out in the opening ceremony
He faced a tricky Turkish fighter in the first round and looked to be settling in well scoring his backfist and front jab. The second round changed as his opponent caught up and in the third round it was close, but the Turkish fighter won by 2 points. George was understandably gutted as he has all the skills and experience needed to beat this opponent who made the final. Sometimes these things happen and it is just not to be, but we take it, analyse it and move on.
Rob fought an Irish opponent in his semi final fight and it was a close one. Both fighters were nervous and it took extra time to seperate them. When Rob started using his round kick and pulled away by 3 points.
In the final Rob met a quick and moveable Danish fighter. Rob realxed more in this fight and his timing and reverse punch was scoring on his opponent time and again. By the end of the fight Rob had won 13-5 and was the WAKO European Champion 2018. A great title to add to his British champions medal won earlier this year.
The Final National tournament of the year took place in High Wycombe at the Superleage finals.
We took a large team and had a few in the running for grand champions.
There were some great fights from all our members
Paige fought in the advanced ladies category and got a 1st, 3rd
Katrina 2nd, 3rd. Charlotte 1st. Rory 1st. Robbie 2nd. Ellis 2nd. Rossi 4th. Maggie 2nd, 4th. Liam 2nd. Szymon 3rd. Andy E 2nd. Rossi 4th. Jasmine 4th. Jake 4th.
Then it came time to find out who the Grand champions for the league were and BKO had quite a few.
Maggie became grand champion in 3 Categories both points and light contact.
Andy E. Mens vets
Rory. Mens inter
Page Girls advanced
Katrina Pee wee Girls

Then to crown the year off Charlotte was announced as fighter of the year. A great accolade.
Well done team a great year competing with 270 1st 2nd and 3rd place trophies for the club .
We took a small squad to the D day inter club at Watford. This was a tournament for maily beginners, but also some of teh experienced fighters run by Dave ryan.
Well done BKO today was exciting - Ben was awesome in his first ever fight showing great confidence. Jake not afraid of anything or anyone getting better all the time. Katrina fighting a lot better than before actually thinking about the techniques and showing better movements. Brothers Robbie and Rossi made it to 3rd place fight off with Robbie taking it away
We took a large squad to the |Bristol Open. There were many new faces fighting and we entered the light con and Points divisions.
So many fights took place On Saturday the light con and team fights were on. Cat and Szymon fought well in their first tournaments and got to the semi finals. The Browns were in the tag teams but were unable to progress farther than the quarter finals. George joined with Callum from the Falcons and they fought as the Wessex warriors In the semi final they met the American team and after a hard fought bout it went to extra time. The Warriors narrowly lost and had to settle for third.
Kat and Mitch fought in the Ladies vets and advanced gaining bronse medals in both.
Next day saw the points fighting.
Charlotte got a silver and Maggie Robbie and Rossi got Bronzes. Alex was the fighter of teh day reaching teh final of the beginners under 10s aection where he had a great fight with a far more experienced fighter. It was all even till the last 10 seconds when he gave away a point and got Silver
Jasmine and \Belle also fought in the pee wees section, With Jas getting silver
There were no intermediate sections in teh adults, so most of our middle grades fought in the advanced sections to gain experience. Nicolle gave a great account of herself and as a green belt against a world champion she fought well and was happy, but not expected to win.
Win of the Day was Rory who along with Andy E and Mark W fought in the vets sections. Mak had a tough fight and Andy ganed a good 3rd. Rory fought through to the final winning a close bout against teh world champ on the way. In the final he remained composed and ran away the victor. Brisol open champion.
George also had some great bouts against very tough opponents He fought to the semi final with a wonderful sudden death score. \In teh final he was against a very good itaian kicker and was fatigued by all the fighting. Near the end of the last round he took a head kick and had to chase which left him too much to do Bronze for George. Another notable fight was Adanm who, although he lost showed great timing strenght and improvement and was unlucky not to progress further.
Well done team
The day was gold!!!
